TREKKING TO IRUYA

You join a small group and a local, experienced guide, to trek in remote areas of the North West of Argentina, viewing small villages in hidden valleys and meeting local and friendly people. Altitude is 2,000ft/4000m.

Day 1 | Arrival in Salta
Meeting at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure. Hotel.
Accommodation at Selva Montana.

Day 2 | Drive Salta - Iruya
Morning departure for a drive along a winding mountain road, viewing the exuberant, subtropical vegetation. The drive continues to the historical Humahuaca Canyon, an area of wonderful landscapes and aboriginal ruins. The drive continues to Iturbe, climbing higher toward Abra Condor (Condor Pass - 4000m). In the afternoon, you will arrive at Iruya, the small village at the top of the mountains, overlooking the valleys. (2750 m) (B)

Day 3 | Trekking Iruya
Today, begin with a hike along the Sierra El Astillero, following narrow paths up the mountain slope, beside cliffs, crossing rivers and streams. During the hike, you will have the chance to see the vestiges of ancient native civilizations and come across the local people who use this path as part of their everyday life. Accommodation at a mountain refuge – Refugio Condor (3050m) – which offers a panoramic view over the valley below. (B,L,D)

Day 4 | Trekking Iruya
Return to Iruya on a different mountain road. Breathtaking sights and more photo opportunities abound. (B,L)

Day 5 | Drive Iruya - Great Salt Falls - Purmamarca - Salta
Morning departure from the Silent Valleys to one of the highest places on earth – the Puna or High Andean Plateau. The multi-hued canyon walls serve as a backdrop for the lively, indigenous people. Visit several charming villages known for their small churches and varied architectural styles. You will visit the Great Salt Flats. Drive to the charming village of Purmamarca through a very panoramic winding road. (B,L)

Day 6 | Departure from Salta
Transfer to the airport for your home bound flight. (B)
